2015 CHILDREN’S SHORT STORY COMPETITION
Calling all children aged 11 and under
– make up a story about a wonder horse and/or a wonder cat.
Calling all children aged 12 to 16
– the theme for your story is “Rebellion”.
We are thrilled and very honoured that the popular writer, Barbara Spencer, has agreed to judge the 2015 children’s competition. Barbara is the author of ten great books for children, teens and young adults and her latest story “The Amazing Brain of O C Longbotham” http://www.barbaraspencer.co.uk/OClongbotham.html has been entered by Troubador for the People’s Book Prize Children’s Section.
Besides writing stories, Barbara spends a great deal of time in Waterstones chatting to people and visiting primary and secondary schools. Now a hands-on grandmother, her current desire is to disappear in a puff of smoke and find peace and quiet to pursue her writing!
Go on let your writing skills loose………… you know there is a story inside you.
There has been a resurgence of interest in the short story lately and we are offering you the opportunity to enter this competition between 15th January and 15th June 2015. Barbara will also write a short critique for the creators of the winning stories and those stories and her comments will be published on this website.
The prizes are 1st £35 each category, 2nd £5 book token each category.
HOW TO ENTER
The cost for the competition is £3 per entry. School entry costs – up to ten stories £20, more than ten stories £25.
Number of words – up to 500 words and all stories must be your own work, which must not have been published.
The deadline is 15th June 2015.
Please mark the first page with your name, number of words and the story title and then put your address, telephone number, email and the story title into a covering letter or email.
If you want to post your story, send it with a covering letter to CM Short Story Competition, c/o April Cottage, Silver Street, Curry Mallet, Taunton, Somerset TA3 6SR.
There are four ways to pay, here on the website at the bottom of this page with your debit or credit card or Paypal account, electronically into our bank account, sort code 77 50 01 account number 57083168, or by cheque or postal order to the above address made payable to Curry Mallet Community Fund. If paying electronically, please put your name and the first line of your address in the reference box, thank you.
A specially selected panel will shortlist the stories and the final 10 from each age category will be judged by a well known literary figure. The winners will be notified at the beginning of September 2015 and the winning stories will be published on this website.
For those new to short story telling – don’t leave entering the competition too close to the deadline and don’t send in your first attempt. Put the story away for a little while after completion and when you review it, improvements will normally be seen immediately. Any profits will be given to good causes.
