Curry Mallet’s bells must have tolled the victims of the Black Death in the 15th century, the Great Plague of 1665, as well as ringing out the welcome news of Drake’s famous victory. Countless local celebrations and funerals (our mufflers are 60 years old) have been heralded, as well as, of course, calling the population to their church for services for over 550 years. There are no regular times at present when the bells are rung, though there are seven or eight villagers who can be called upon to ring the bells when the occasion demands it.
Anyone interested in bell ringing would be very welcome to join the existing team. No experience is necessary!
